General Description

The purpose of this job is to work with other providers to increase job placements in surrounding areas, engage employers, and educate Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) providers about Supported Employment (SE) and Individual Placement Support (IPS) principles. The Job Developer shall practice principles of job development and shall focus on the provision of services to individuals with a history of Opioid Use Disorders (OUD) or have a history of receiving Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and obtain competitive employment.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Provide services to individuals using the IPS model.
  • Responsible for the provision of individualized assistance to each person in choosing and obtaining employment in integrated work sites in regular community jobs.
  • Collaborate with SUD and MAT providers within local services are to identify individuals with a history of OUD's, a history or receiving MAT, or who have a co-occurring mental illness or both.
  • Implement SE and IPS job development strategies.
  • Provide individual support based upon each person's preferences, strengths, work history, and current living situation.
  • Address specific steps in the process, including searching job leads and completing job applications.
  • Complete career profiles with clients and provide referrals to potential job leads.
  • Participate in community engagement and support to foster relationships with potential employers.
  • Facilitate exploration of job opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires an Associate's Degree in Health or Human Services, Social Services, Rehabilitation, Emergency Management or related field, supplemented by two (2) years of experience as a chemical dependency or mental health counselor or closely related field; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience with trauma-informed services; cognitive behavioral therapies, including DBT; and motivational therapies including the use of incentives, preferred.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principals, and practices (includes multi-faceted understanding of concepts such as community trauma, intergenerational and historical trauma, parallel processes, and universal precautions), preferred.

Physical Demands

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a TB, criminal background and drug screen.
